All is now set for the Episcopal consecration of Rt. Rev. Msgr. Patrick Eluke as the Auxiliary Bishop of Port Harcourt Diocese on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Corpus Christi Cathedral, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The event which is billed to begin with a Holy Mass at 10:00am, will have the Papal Nuncio, His Grace, Most Rev. Antonio Guido Filipazzi, as the Principal Consecrator. The Archbishop of Calabar, Most Rev. Joseph Ekuwem and the Catholic Bishop of Port Harcourt, Most Rev. Camillus Archibong Etokudoh as co-consecrators.
Over 50 Archbishops and Bishops from within the country are expected to grace the event.
It would be recalled that this is the first time a priest of the Diocese of Port Harcourt in the 58-year history of the Diocese is being elevate to the office of a Bishop.
Rt. Rev. Msgr. Patrick Eluke was ordained a Catholic Priest on September 23, 1995 by Most Rev. Dr. A.O. Makozi.
On February, 12, 2019, he was appointed by the Catholic Supreme Pontiff, Pope Francis as the Auxiliary Bishop of Port Harcourt and the Titular Bishop of Fotice.
As part of preparation for the day, the Catholic Bishop of Port Harcourt Diocese, Most Rev. Camillus Etokudoh has declared novena for the success of the Episcopal consecration and for the safety of all who will attend the event.
The Chairman of the Planning Committee, Rev. Fr. Dr. Donatus Ukulor, said that every arrangement has been put in place to have a successful ordination.
He enjoined all Catholic faithful of the Diocese and Christians of other denominations to join in the celebration, which he describe as “very special to the Diocese”.
“This event is our 58-year anniversary gift. Let us join hands to celebrate it”, he said.
Meanwhile, parishioners of St. Francis Parish Rumuokwuta, Port Harcourt, the Parish of the Auxiliary Bishop-elect and venue for his first Holy Mass are making frantic efforts to ensure that everything is put together in readiness for the guests from within and outside the Diocese.
The Auxiliary Bishop-elect has since held his last Parish Pastoral Council meeting in his present status as a Parish Priest. He commended the parish for assisting him live out his priestly obligation in the last four years.
Preparations for his reception are in top gear, as all societies, organizations, Basic Christian Communities as well as the outstation of the parish are doing everything possible to ensure a smooth host of the event.
Corpus Christi Cathedral, the venue of the Episcopal consecration, has also concluded arrangement towards the successful hosting of the event which is the first of its kind in the Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt.
The Cathedral Parishioners in collaboration with the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Paul Okeregwu have so far renovated the Cathedral Church building and the whole Church premises to make the epoch occasion colourful.
