The Catholic Bishop of Port Harcourt, Most Rev. Dr. Camillus Etokudoh has reiterated the importance of the lay people in the growth and development of the Church in Port Harcourt Diocese, describing them as the foundation of the Church.
The Bishop who made this known when he granted audience to members of the Laity Council from across the Diocese, together with the Elder’s Forum of CMO and CWO, stated that even without the Bishops or the Priests, the Church would still be in place.
The prelate while commending the laity for their contributions to the growth of the Church, urged them to always live their lives in accordance with their call.
“The laity is privileged to work with the Priests and the priests are privileged to work with the laity. The clergy and the laity need to work together for better evangelization and that is the area we are going to”, he said
Bishop Etokudoh called for dialogue to bring about peace between the clergy and the laity, noting that there is always room for questions which would lead to clarification of issues.
“The laity is the foundation of the Church, without the priests or Bishops or Pope, the Church will go on. So, be proud of who you are and what you are”, he added.
The Chief Shepherd thanked both the Council members and Elders for their presence at the interactive session and explained that the essence of the session was to allow the lay faithful to suggest how the Diocese could be administered for the betterment of all.
