SSVP: Our job is to alleviate the sufferings of Widows

Members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSPV), of Corpus Christi Cathedral, Port Harcourt, on Thursday, September 13, 2018 reminded members of the Parish Widows’ Forum that part of their job is to alleviate the sufferings of the widows.
The group stated this through its Vice President, Mr. George Adam after dispatching cheques of N50,000 each to 20 widows of the parish.
Mr. Adam told Catholic Link that one of their benefactors decided to put smile on the faces of 20 widows through SSVP. “We have a benefactor who chose to channel part of his wealth through the SSVP to the widows of the parish to alleviate their sufferings”, he said.
He said that SSVP as a charity organization in the Catholic Church focuses on the poor, the needy and widows in the Parish and society at large.
The Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Bartholomew Uzoma urged the widows to make good use of the money, begin a small scale business that could boast their livelihood.
He told the widows to consider themselves blessed since somebody was thinking good of them and planning on how to alleviate their sufferings. “This is a prayer answered. You have been praying and God had touched someone to put smile on your faces”, he said.
Fr. Uzoma called on widows in the parish to identify with the Forum to be easily reached when opportunity comes and thanked the SSVP for their good work in the parish.
The Parish President of the Forum, Mrs. Mary Chinwo thanked Fr. Uzoma, the donor and SSVP for being there for them and assured them that the women would make good use of the money.
